Workplace Charging Scheme

Workplace Charging

The UK Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government initiative designed to support businesses and organiations in the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at workplaces.

What is this scheme?

The UK Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government initiative designed to support businesses and organisations in the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at workplaces. This scheme aims to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles by providing financial assistance to help cover the costs associated with the installation of charging points.

Under the Workplace Charging Scheme, eligible businesses and organisations can receive grants of up to £350 per socket, up to a maximum of 40 sockets across all sites. This grant can significantly reduce the upfront costs of installing EV charging infrastructure, making it more affordable and accessible for employers to provide charging facilities for their employees.

Eligibility

The Site

You must own the property or have consent from the landlord for charge points to be installed at the site(s) listed in the application. Your site will need to have dedicated off-road parking that is clearly associated with the premises. If you do not own it, you will need permission from the landowner. You should have your site surveyed by an installer before you apply for the grant.

Working from home

If your primary place of work is also a residential property (your home), you can apply for the grant under this scheme as long as your address is either:

  • listed as your place of business with Companies House
  • recorded on your business (non-domestic) rate bill issued to you by your local council or Land and Property Services (LPS)
  • You must have off-road parking.
