On Street EV Charging Grants

On Street Grants

An on street (EV) chargepoint grant can help towards the cost of installing an electric vehicle chargepoint socket for your on street parking at your property.

What is this scheme?

The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for Households with On-Street Parking provides financial assistance to EV drivers for purchasing and installing an EV chargepoint at their residential property when also installing a cross-pavement charging solution.

This grant covers 75% of the cost of buying and installing a socket, up to a maximum of £350. You can apply for this grant if you:

  • Own or rent a residential property
  • Have adequate on-street parking
  • Have permission to install a cross-pavement charging solution from local planning authorities
  • Will install a cross-pavement charging solution before installing your chargepoint
  • Own an eligible electric vehicle

Eligibility

To qualify for the grant, you must have all necessary permissions from local planning and highways authorities, and possibly from private landowners if the road is on private land. As the cross-pavement solution market is still developing, approvals may vary by location, and the final decision on eligibility rests with the relevant authorities and landowners.

Adequate on-street Parking

Your property must have adequate on-street parking that is lawful, does not impede traffic or pedestrians, and the road is wide enough to allow for easy passage. The final determination of parking adequacy and the suitability of a cross-pavement solution is made by the planning and highways authority or private landowners. The grant does not guarantee ownership or exclusive use of any on-street parking space, so constant access to the funded chargepoint cannot be assured.

Vehicle Requirements

This grant is available only for vehicles on the OZEV-approved electric vehicle list.

You can apply if you:

  • Are the registered keeper of a new or used eligible electric vehicle (the registered keeper is responsible for road tax and MOT, but not necessarily the owner).
  • Are assigned a company car.
  • Lease an eligible vehicle.
  • Are designated by your employer as the primary user of an eligible electric vehicle.
  • Have ordered an eligible electric vehicle.

Vehicle Leases

You must provide your installer with proof that you own or lease your electric vehicle.

If your vehicle lease had a bundle which includes a chargepoint, it must:

  • Specify that ownership of the chargepoint transfers to you once payment is complete.
  • Itemise the cost of the chargepoint and installation, including VAT.
  • Ensure the chargepoint warranty meets grant requirements.
  • Confirm that the vehicle lease is for at least 6 months.

Property Requirements

The grant is available only for domestic properties where you live. It cannot be used if installing chargepoints or infrastructure is a mandatory requirement. You must secure all necessary third-party permissions, such as from a landlord, freeholder, or managing agent, before applying for the grant and installing a chargepoint.

Additionally, you must arrange for a company approved by the local authority to install a cross-pavement charging solution before installing your chargepoint; self-installation on public roads is not permitted. The property must be located in England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland; properties in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man are not eligible.

Note: You must use eligible installers and chargepoint models.
